Spiderman, Batman and Superman are children’s favourite superheroes according to a new poll released by Novotel hotels following a nationwide Super Heroes Day celebrating kids and families.
However, these fantastical super heroes have some steep competition from some very real heroes, as the research carried out by Novotel Hotels, reveals that more than a third of children believe their parents are super heroes. And they are; they are our very own unsung heroes. They keep us safe, care for us and support us in our decisions – both big and small. Sometimes being a parent requires super hero powers, unfortunately mums and dads don’t give themselves the credit they deserve with less than half feeling that they deserve super hero status.
While some parents may joke about needing to be superhuman just to get through the day, many parents admit to encouraging the super heroes status amongst their children, with a third of parents admitting to telling their children that they have special powers. Everything from being able to see what their children are doing at ALL times, the most popular power play by parents, with 43% of parents enjoying this ‘power, to having truth detector powers and being able to see in the dark are told by parents to their kids.
Additional tactics parents have used to stop their children for getting up to no good includes the ultimate spy technique of being able to turn invisible, although the 17% of parents who tell their children they can fly probably have the most fun and vivid imagination.
This research was conducted by family friendly hotel chain, Novotel, following their nationwide Novotel Super Heroes Day, which was a free event rolled out across all 33 Novotel Hotels in the UK in order to bring families together over the school holidays.
Jonathan Sheard, SVP Operations Luxury, Upscale & Midscale Hotels, Accor UK & Ireland said: “At Novotel we put families at the heart of everything we do which is why we rolled out an event designed to celebrate super heroes both big and small and bring families together. We are delighted to hear that kids recognise that parents are super heroes and what better way to reaffirm this than to invite them to spend more time together during the school holidays.
At Novotel hotels in the UK kids are our special guests with a free gift as soon as they enter and they can stay and eat breakfast for free. Most Novotel hotels also feature a dedicated kids corner to help keep kids entertained. Families can also take advantage of free Wi-Fi so they can share their photos and holiday stories with friends and loved ones, or even send a digital postcard home from the Moncierge virtual concierge in the Novotel lobbies.”
