Northerners are renowned for their habits and as a child, one of my family habits was a Holland’s pie dinner on a Saturday. It truly was the greatest day of the week and something we all looked forward to.
Imagine my delight when an actual Holland’s Pie van turned up on my doorstep just before Christmas laden with pies!
Specifically the new Micro 2 Go range of delicious microwaveable pasties that Holland’s have just launched on the market. The clever packaging with very easy to follow instructions allows the pasty to offer an over baked taste in under 2 minutes… perfect for when you need lunch or a snack on the go!
Available in Cheese and Onion, Steak and Guinness, Chicken Balti and Peppered Steak, the range does feature something for everyone with the Chicken Balti being my favourite!
The pastry slices are fresh and as such you will find them in the refrigerated sections in selected stores of Tesco, Morrisons and Asda with a RRP of £1.79. Unfortunately I had not read the box and phased with 24 slices, my immediate reaction was to freeze them. It does state not to freeze the slices however as such, when I cooked the slices I made sure they were cooked properly in the oven (on a baking tray and not in the packaging) at Gas Mark 6 for 20-25 minutes. Alas, I am still here to write this article!
The unique packaging feature panels inside the boxes that help to keep the shortcrust pastry crisp and ensure the filling is cooked perfectly!
The packaging design is synonymous with Holland’s Pies and all bar the Steak and Guinness are in the traditional green that will make the Micro 2 Go slices easy to locate.
The smell of the slices baking was divine and as savoury lovers, we delved straight into the slices as soon as they were cooked. Each flavour is delicious and there is certainly a lot of filling packed into the slices… it was great to see chunks of steak in the Steak and Guinness slice and for a lunch they really are a good pick you up to keep you going until dinner time!
A huge thank you to Holland’s Pies for the rather awesome selection of pies they sent my father for his 70th birthday too… true nostalgia in a box and thoroughly enjoyed!
There is a fantastic giveaway coming up, so if you are a Holland’s Pie lover then definitely keep your eyes peeled!
